Womens Climb
Several WCISA women climbers are interested in starting a training and networking group. If you are interested in climbing, but don't know where to start – this is your group. If you are already a seasoned climber – this is your group.
Not ready to start yet, but interested in learning more? Email our 2007 Womoen’s climbing champion and women’s climbing group leader, Rhonda Wood, at Rhonda.Wood@disney.com or 2006 and 2007 men’s climbing champion, Chad Brey, at chad@treeclimbingusa.com.
2008 Western Chapter Women's Champion – Jessica Petrini
This was Jessica’s first Chapter and International Competition. Jessica was born in Oakland, Ca but has lived in the
Santa Cruz area for the last 15 years where she works at the University of California, Santa Cruz on the tree crew.
When asked why she chose this career, Jessica replied “I feel that working with and climbing trees is an excellent way to
learn more about how different species and aged trees react to different situations and care. I think working in the field is
invaluable. I love climbing because of the challenge and the fact that every tree is different in how it can be climbed.”
In her early training, she took an Arboriculture class from James Allen at the community college and knew Arboriculture was for
her. She also credits her thirst for knowledge to Nelda Matheny. James and Nelda are who Jessica considers her mentors.
Jessica has a wonderful husband, Wade, and three beautiful boys Venny 9, Anthony 7 and Niccolo 5. Jessica plans on becoming
an ASCA registered consulting arborist.
