Meeting Objectives 

  1. Identify current pressing challenges and opportunities to push urban and community forestry forward in the San Diego region. 
  1. Strengthen communication and foster existing and emerging partnerships across organizations working in the San Diego region. 
  • Encourage interoperability and cooperation on current and future urban forestry projects. 
  • Identify projects and ideas that align with one another and may benefit from partnership—particularly in anticipation of the future Prop 4 bond grant cycle. 

Agenda 

  • Check-in, Resource Fair, and Networking | 1:00 – 1:30 p.m. 
  • Welcome, Event Overview, and Icebreaker Activity | 1:30 – 1:50 p.m. 

San Diego Regional Urban Forest Council (SDRUFC) and California Urban Forests Council (CaUFC) welcome attendees by giving an overview of the agenda, ground-setting, and housekeeping. The team will lead a brief icebreaker activity. 

  • Regional Urban Forestry Priorities and Funding Presentation | 1:50 – 2:05 p.m. 

SDRUFC and CaUFC present the San Diego region urban forestry priorities, assets, and challenges as reported by attendees in the pre-workshop questionnaire. CAL FIRE presents an overview of urban forestry funding offered by the State of California. 

  • Regional Showcase: Success Stories and Lessons Learned | 2:05 – 2:40 p.m. 

Panelists highlight their achievements and lessons learned in advancing urban forestry in the San Diego region. Tree San Diego (Elektra Fike-Data), City of San Diego (Brian Widener) confirmed as panelists. 

  • Break | 2:40 – 2:50 p.m. 
  • Breakout Group Discussion | 2:50 – 3:55 p.m. 

Facilitated small group discussions where attendees, divided by project type or grant type, will share their organizational priorities and projects with a focus on identifying aligned ideas that may benefit from partnership. Groups report back to the room. 

  • Close-out and Adjourn | 3:55 – 4:00 p.m.
