Robinson, Associate Professor/Specialist for University of Nevada, and Jeff Anderson, Extension Agent/Associate Professor for New Mexico State University. This conference will cover proper palm care, diseases of concern, and other palm species to consider for Hawaii’s landscapes. In addition, local experts will discuss current pest issues with particular focus on the latest regarding Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle.

Speakers:
Jeff Anderson, a graduate of New Mexico State University with a Master’s Degree in Horticulture, currently serves as the NMSU Cooperative Extension Agent in Horticulture for Doña Ana County, NM. With over 45 years in the industry, Jeff plays a crucial role in disseminating knowledge and expertise to local and statewide communities. He addresses a wide range of topics, including commercial horticulture, agricultural production, landscape design, and environmental and economic development. Before his current role, Jeff mastered his skills in commercial greenhouse production for over 16 years, working with Alex R. Masson’s, Sorenson’s Greenhouses, and Sunland Nurseries, Inc. There he cultivated a variety of plants, such as palms, oaks, native plants, tropical foliage, poinsettias, mums, cacti, and bedding plants. Jeff is committed to conservation and sustainability, particularly in arid regions where he lives. He advocates for responsible water use and the selection of suitable flora for local environments. A dedicated professional and advocate for sustainable practices, Jeff continues to make invaluable contributions to horticulture, benefiting both the industry and the communities he serves.
M. L. Robinson has had a 30+ year career in Environmental Horticulture and related fields as an Associate Professor/ Specialist for the University of Nevada and the University of Florida. Areas of expertise include water conservation, natural resources, palms, desert plants (cactus, succulents) and Mojave natives), herpetology, hemp, arboriculture, and integrated pest management. He has worked in grant procurement and applied research. He has extensive experience developing educational programs for the community and horticultural industry, including seminars, cable television, video, educational publications, journal articles, posters, national and international presentations, and promotional brochures. He has served on the board of directors of many national committees and has been part of the formation and development of several reginal and national professional organizations.
