Webinar Time: 6:00 pm PST (3pm in Hawaii)

This webinar will provide an in-depth update on efforts to manage and control the Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle (CRB), an invasive pest that threatens Hawaii's coconut palms and other important agricultural and natural resources. Dr. Weiser, based in Oahu, will lead the discussion, sharing valuable insights into the ongoing research, fieldwork, and partnerships dedicated to containing this destructive beetle.  This event promises to be a comprehensive update on CRB management and will highlight critical efforts to protect Hawaii’s unique environment and agricultural industry from the devastation caused by this invasive pest.

Speaker: Dr. Keith Weiser is a leading scientist and expert in the field of invasive pest management, with a particular focus on the Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle (CRB), an invasive species that threatens ecosystems and agriculture in Hawaii. Based on Oahu, Dr. Weiser is actively involved in research and management strategies aimed at controlling and containing CRB populations in Hawaii and across the Pacific region.  In his role, Dr. Weiser coordinates a range of initiatives, including delimiting surveys to track the spread of the pest, field treatments to address infestations, and outreach programs to educate the public and agricultural stakeholders about CRB. His work also involves developing new treatment methods and innovative solutions for pest management, collaborating with local, state, and international partners to mitigate the impacts of this invasive species.   Dr. Weiser’s expertise extends to pest biology, integrated pest management (IPM), and ecological conservation. His efforts are integral to preserving the agricultural and ecological integrity of Hawaii, particularly in managing the impact of invasive species like the CRB. He continues to be a key figure in the ongoing fight to protect Hawaii’s coconut palms and other critical plants from the damaging effects of CRB.
