THIS IS A TWO DAY EVENT.
Dates and Times:
August 22 & 23, 2023 | 8:00 am – 3:30 pm
Conference Description:
Join us for two days with Frank Rinn! He will present condensed results from working 35 years in developing and applying diagnostic technologies and methods for tree-safety evaluation. The morning sessions will cover theoretical aspects, wood anatomy, biomechanics, tree safety evaluation concepts, and the new tree stability model “Allometric Self-Referencing”. The afternoon outdoor-sessions will demonstrate practical applications of visually accessible safety aspects as well as resistance drilling and sonic tomography - in order to understand possibilities and limitations of all these methods.
Day 1:
    - Biomechanical basics, why VTA and SIA do not allow to evaluate breaking safety of defective mature urban trees (classroom).
- The new tree-stability model, based on biomechanical science: “Allometric Self-Referencing” (classroom).
- How to assess allometric properties of trees that are relevant for stability evaluation of defective mature urban trees (field session).
- Analysis and evaluation of allometric properties for tree-safety evaluation (classroom).
- Wind load and crown cabling (classroom).
- Documentation and reporting (classroom).
Day 2:
    - From wood anatomy to tree-biomechanics (classroom).
-  Basics, possibilities and limitations of technical measurements such as sonic tomography, resistance drilling, pull testing) (classroom).
- Michael-Gerold Neumann, The value of advanced tree assessment methods from an Urban Forester’s perspective (classroom).
- How to assess defective mature urban trees with sounding and drilling (field session).
- Analysis, evaluation, and documentation of measured results (classroom).
- Michael-Gerold Neumann, Lessons learned from local tree failures and mitigation strategies for mature trees (classroom).
- Discussion (classroom)
